To
the Students of HISD: Our
school system is committed to the education of the complete individual
- developing alert young minds and sound bodies to produce informed, responsible
citizens. The Northeast Adolescent Program is a powerful means of achieving
that goal. Thanks to the guidance and expertise available through this
unique joint venture, we are playing a decisive role in strengthening
the community by reducing infant mortality, the spread of poverty, and
dependence on welfare support.
Dr. Rod Paige
Superintendent of Schools
Houston Independent School District
"The
Northeast Adolescent Program is demonstrating that not only is the infant
mortality rate declining, but the low birth-weight rate among teen deliveries
has dramatically decreased."
Lois Moore,
CEO
Harris County Hospital District
"In
every person's life, one can recall a significant teacher, family member
or friend who made a major difference in their personal future. It is
the goal of the Northeast Adolescent program that every staff member fill
that role for some teenagers with whom they work"
Dr.
Peggy B. Smith
Baylor Teen Health Clinic
"The
Northeast Adolescent Program is a first for Houston/Harris County-first
coalition that brings the school system, the public sector, private industry,
and non-profit organizations together. All these are groups working toward
the same goals-to decrease infant mortality and teenage pregnancy. The
March of Dimes is proud to be part of this forward-looking group."
